The Malta Psychology Profession Board is bound by law to observe the criteria set forth in the Malta Psychology Act (Cap. 471.) when determining whether a prospective candidate is eligible for a warrant to practice psychology and obtain the title of Registered [Warranted] Psychologist.

A warranted psychologist may also register to become a Board-Approved Supervisor.

The title of ‘psychologist’ is protected under Maltese law. Only persons who are warranted by the Malta Psychology Profession Board may use the title of psychologist in Malta.

General eligibility criteria:

• In order to practice as a psychologist, regardless of specialisation, one needs a warrant in psychology. The warrant is granted to applicants who have a MQF level 7 qualification in a degree recognised as equivalent to that offered by the University of Malta, together with a minimum of two years (3770 hours) of supervised practice following completion of the degree.

   

• The Board requires that at least half of the required supervision hours be received by a warranted psychologist, registered also as supervisor, in the area within which you wish to be warranted.

   

• The copies of the original documents submitted with the application are to be dated and signed off by a legal professional  stating on documents that these are a true copy of the original documents.

   

• Any foreign documentation submitted needs to be translated by an accredited translator.
