Overview

The main aim of the Fostering Service is to offer a family experience to children, who for specific reasons, cannot live with their biological family. If integration is not possible, fostering may be utilized as a permanent plan. Children are given the opportunity to live within a family environment where they are provided with love, care, security, reassurance, and stability. Throughout the fostering placement, children are given various opportunities to develop their full potential further.

What you'll get

Individuals who are interested in becoming foster carers are eventually approved by the Children's Directorate (Alternative Care). Applicants are obliged to attend training. After the pre-service training, a social worker initiates the assessment of the candidates to evaluate their skills in becoming foster carers. A social worker compiles a Home Study Report that is presented to the Fostering Board, which is the entity that approves or turns down applicants.

Following this process, matching of a child with foster families will take place based on the needs of the children and skills of foster carers. Regular home visits, counselling sessions, ongoing training and other support services will be provided.
