Educational Support Services

  • Servizz Għożża

This service supports young mothers, and their partners, together with their respective parents, offering prevention programmes focused on relationships and sexual education. It provides prevention sessions to Year 9 students and informative meetings for Year 7 parents.
  • Teacher's Warrant

Teachers who are in possession of a teaching qualification recognised by the Council for Teaching Profession (CTP), following the successful completion of an aggregate period of at least two scholastic years full-time or its equivalent in part-time and having received adequate experience in the practice of the teaching profession under supervision in a school or provider of further education following the completion of such degree or such other professional qualification, are requested to apply for a teacher's permanent warrant in terms of Article 24.

Persons who are in possession of a Master's degree or a comparable degree and have registered for such qualification prior to 29 July 2008 may also apply for a permanent warrant in terms of Article 41. Persons who prior to the 29 July 2008 have practised the teaching profession for at least 8 years in a school may also apply for a permanent warrant in terms of Article 41 on completion of 15 years teaching experience.
  • Temporary Warrant for Teachers

Teachers teaching in compulsory education are requested by Law to be in possession of at least a temporary warrant.
  • The Magic of Stories

The Magic of Stories/Seħer l-Istejjer is a family literacy programme intended for children between 4 and 7 years of age, and their parents/guardians. The primary aim of this programme is to promote a love of reading among children and their parents/guardians. Weekly sessions are held free of charge, during which several stories are read in a fun and motivating environment, to stimulate children’s imagination. These sessions are being held in primary schools, in public libraries, local councils, parish centres and open spaces in Malta and in Gozo.

  • The Pleasure of Reading

The Pleasure of Reading/Gost il-Qari is a family literacy programme for children aged 7 to 11 years together with their parents/guardians. The programme consists of one-hour reading sessions which are held once a week. These sessions are held in primary schools and in the community.
Each session features the sharing of stories from a variety of books, and other fun activities for this age group. Besides enhancing the listener’s reading, the animated reading session provides a means for passing on information, identifying with and empathising with others. The Reading Animator colours the way the listener shapes the story, uses rich oral language, and allows participating children to express themselves by creating a play and multisensory experience. The children understand that the story has a sequence of events where a problem is posed, and consequently, together as a group they try to solve the problem by finding solutions through discussion and role play.

  • Transition Co-ordinator

Students with individual educational needs who are in Year 11 and their parents are supported by a transition coordinator in exploring post-secondary opportunities. The coordinator attends individual educational programme meetings, prepares action plans, organises orientation visits, and ensures the best educational or employment options for each student.
  • Youth Fitness Support Scheme

The Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation is committed to continuing to foster a healthier lifestyle among Maltese and Gozitan youth, while recognising the need to promote physical activity and wellbeing. For this purpose, the Ministry will be re-launching the Youth Physical Activity Support Scheme.

This initiative is now valid for young people born between 2004 and 2009, as long as they have not already benefited from the scheme this year. It offers them six months of free membership, which can be redeemed as a six-month gym subscription. The system is aligned with national priorities for the promotion of health and youth development, aiming to create a culture of health awareness among young people, while over time reducing public health expenses.
